I had my eye on Tom Ford Neroli Portofino EDP Eau de Parfum for quite a while. Launched in 2011, this unisex fragrance was originally introduced in a dark brown bottle. This summer, however, it comes in a turquoise blue glass bottle that, in my opinion, serves as a better visual presentation for this amazing scent by tying it to summer, beach and water. The nose behind this fragrance is Rodrigo Flores-Roux, a perfumer who created such popular scents as Clinique Happy, Estee Lauder 2011 version of the Bronze Goddess, and an entire array of Elizabeth Arden Green Tea variations.
Many describe Tom Ford Neroli Portofino EDP Eau de Parfum as a citrusy fragrance, and since I am not a big fan of pure-cut citrusy scents, originally I got very puzzled about why I was so attracted to this perfume. Then, I realized that it is not citrusy in a conventional sense. Neroli Portofino is a more complex olfactory construct that perfectly balances luminous and crisp citrus oils with floral notes and amber undertones. It is carelessly light, yet at the same time substantially grounded and that play between light and concrete awakens the senses and leaves an unforgettable impression.
Tom Ford Neroli Portofino EDP Eau De Parfum fragrance notes:
- Top Notes: bergamot and mandarin orange.
- Middle Notes: African orange flower.
- Base Notes: amber.
The Tom Ford Neroli Portofino EDP Eau de Parfum opens with a happy and crisp mix of bergamot and citrusy notes mixed with orange blossom and spiciness, then proceeds transcends to something that is little sweeter, like a fruity and floral combination. The dry down veil is an orange accord rounded up with a very subtle and sophisticated amber that is not too sweet and not too woody. I bought this perfume just before my vacation to Mexico and now it has a sentimental value to me by reminding me of careless time by the vast pool, tropical sea breeze, bright sandy beach, and exotic cocktails by the water. On my skin, the perfume last for 3-4 hours, but after that it becomes very subtle and lingers like a breeze. I am looking forward to getting the other two perfumes,Tom Ford Costa Azzurra EDP Eau De Parfum and Mandarino di Amalfi to complete my collection of Tom Ford Summer perfumes.
