Introduced as part of Chanel last year’s fall collection, the Chanel Alchimie 591 Le Vernis Nail Colour left me indifferent until this August, when I decided to out of my comfort zone and try some bold and unusual colors. Normally, I like neutral nude shades and all classic variations of bold red. However, after getting several unusual colors from such brands as Mac Cosmetics, Butter London, Zoya and Deborah Lippmann and especially after experimenting with Mac Nail Transformation Top Coats, made me broaden my nail color choices, and hence, fully appreciate the beauty of mossy olive shimmer of Chanel Alchimie 591. I got my bottle of 13 ml/0.4 fl oz nail polish on sale and was really impressed with the elegant shade of green described as "golden khaki" spiced up with shimmer particles with a warm hint of gold and khaki.
I like that the green does not have a cool undertone to it; on the contrary the Chanel Alchimie 591 is warm-toned green with threads of metallic olive shimmer. I think the color could look perfect both during summer and fall seasons with its smooth, even and streak-free coverage that can be achieved with two coats. However, like with most nail colors, I prefer three coats for the most perfect coverage. Not a fan of greens or olive colors on the nails in the past, I guess in Chanel’s interpretation greens transform into elegant, classy and beautiful, and equally appropriate for day (work) and evening. And of course, the quality it this nail color is up to Chanel standards. After moderate exposure to the water, it lasted for 4-5 days without any signs of chipping or wear. My final verdict is that Chanel Alchimie 591 nail color is definitely a keeper and I will enjoy wearing it alone or layer it with Mac Cosmetics Nail Transformations Top Coats and Nails Inc. special effects top coats.
